  1. 1.  Mary Magdalene Stover was born Stover - Through the Years, Walgreen 1962 p41. Nam (daughter of Jacob (of Strasburg) Stover and Catharine (m. Stover) Bowman).

    Notes:

Mary, sister of Christian Stover Junior (d.1815), is mentioned in his will, along with her children, Jacob and Mary.

Daniel Bly has speculated that *Jacob Stover of Hardy County* may be a son of Mary Stover, who apparently had children named Jacob and Mary without benefit of marriage. Mary is Christian Stover Junior's sister. This Mary was mentioned in Christian Junior's 1815 will along with her children Jacob and Mary. Birth and death for Mary is not known. If Bly is referring to THIS Jacob, b. 1809, I think a son born 1809 was probably born too late to be son of this Mary.

  1. 2.  Jacob (of Strasburg) Stover was born 1717, Strasburg, Alsace, Germany (son of Christian (of Lower Salford) Stauffer); died Bef 1791, Strasburg, Shenandoah, Virginia, United States.

    Other Events:

    • Residence: 1749, ,Shenandoah, Virginia, USA; Jacob and Peter Stauffer emmigrated to the Valley of Virginia (Shenandoah) about the year 1749. Pg 58, Veach and Stover Families, 1913.
    • Death: 1769, Virgina; Stover - Through the Years, Walgreen 1962 p41. Reference states Jacob died in 1769 (when his will was written), however it is certainly possible he died in a later year.
    • Will: 1769, Virginia, USA; The year of 1769 shown in Jacob's will estate is not explained in available records. It may be when the will was drafted. It does not conclude Jacob died in 1769 as some sources claim. More info would be appreciated.
    • Census: 1782, Frederick County, Virginia; Jacob Stover present with a family of four. Source: Veach and Stover Families, 1913, pg 58.

    Notes:

This is Jacob, brother of Peter Stover (founder of Strasburg). According to Daniel Bly, this is the father of Christian Stover (Jr), who married Susannah Funk. He says this Christian was called Junior because he was younger than his older cousin, Christian, son of Peter.

    Birth:
Jacob Stover, son of Christian. Birth year and location is not proven.

    Died:
Some research assigns Jacob's death in 1769 (date of will). Alt. death at or before 1791 is not certain, although this appears to be the year Jacob's estate was distributed by Peter Stover to heirs.

It is generally accepted (but not proven) that this Christian Stauffer (Stover) had brothers Hans and Jacob (pg 224) and that this brother, Jacob Stover, is the Jacob who married Sarah Boone on 15 Mar 1715 in Pennsylvania, aunt of Daniel Boone. Jacob and Sarah had nine children in Pennsylvania. After Sarah's death, it is believed Jacob left his children with the Boone in-laws and traveled to explore the "Valley of Virginia."
